The “Gianfranco Baruchello Archive”. A platform in progress for research
The project to reorganize and digitize part of the Fondazione Baruchello’s archival collections was carried out between 2023 and 2025, thanks to funding granted by the European Union – Next Generation EU – PNRR TOCC-Transizione Digitale Organismi Culturali e Creativi (Digital Transition for Cultural and Creative Organisations) – obtained through the 2022 Call for Proposals of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity – Ministry of Culture.
The aim of this project was to make the archive documents more widely available.
Every archive has a history: that of the archive relating to the work of Gianfranco Baruchello begins with photographs and other family documents, even before the artist’s birth.
Since the beginning of 2025, the Baruchello Foundation has been adding a large selection of materials to its website, in the “Gianfranco Baruchello Archive” section. During his long life, Baruchello (1924-2023) collected, preserved and reactivated these materials in his works and writings. Since 1998, the Archive has been part of the Baruchello Foundation’s heritage. The Archive consists of documents (paper, photographic, audiovisual), studied and organized by subject, which bear witness to the artist’s relationships, the places he frequented and the activities he carried out.
The “Gianfranco Baruchello Archive”, digitized thanks to the TOCC project and published on the website platform, which is continuously being updated, is organized into subsections including: Works (a selection), Filmography, Correspondence, Cinema Archive, Exhibitions, Photographic Archive, Writings. The work of organizing the Archive complements the work carried out for the artist’s Catalogue Raisonné (edited by Carla Subrizi).
The original documents may be consulted at the Foundation’s premises. No document may be used without a request for authorization to be sent to catalogo.baruchello@gmail.com for permission to be granted. Documents may not be used or cited without such a request.
